Optical gain in DNA-DCM for lasing in photonic materials.

چکیده
We present a detailed study of the gain length in an active medium obtained by doping of DNA strands with 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-(4-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran dye molecules. The superior thermal stability of the composite and its low quenching permit one to obtain an optical gain coefficient larger than 300 cm(-1). We also demonstrate that such an active material is feasible for the infiltration into photonic nanostructures, allowing one to obtain fluorescent photonic crystals and promising lasing properties.

Lasing in Dye–Doped Photonic Liquid Crystal Devices
We have investigated the effects of pumping laser’s polarization and incident angles, dye concentration, cell gap, and lasing wavelength on the lasing efficiency of the dye doped cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) devices. These factors impact the lasing efficiency due to the existence of the photon bleaching and quench in the dye molecules, the competition of the optical gain and loss in the med...
متن کاملTunable circularly polarized lasing emission in reflection distributed feedback dye lasers.
A tunable circularly polarized distributed feedback (DFB) laser based on reflection grating configuration was realized in a solution of 4- (dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-(4-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran (DCM) doped methanol. Chiral photonic DFB structures with tunable photonic bandgap were generated by controlling the state of polarization of the two interfering pump beams. The dual-peak lasing ...
متن کاملPolymer nanofibers as novel light-emitting sources and lasing material
Polymer microand nano-fibers, made of organic light-emitting materials with optical gain, show interesting lasing properties. Fibers with diameters from few tens of nm to few microns can be fabricated by electrospinning, a method based on electrostatic fields applied to a polymer solution. The morphology and emission properties of these fibers, composed of optically inert polymers embedding las...
متن کاملTuning random lasing in photonic glasses.
We present a detailed numerical investigation of the tunability of a diffusive random laser when Mie resonances are excited. We solve a multimode diffusion model and calculate multiple light scattering in presence of optical gain that includes dispersion in both scattering and gain, without any assumptions about the β parameter. This allows us to investigate a realistic photonic glass made of l...
متن کاملExternal cavity laser biosensor 3
Utilizing a tunable photonic crystal resonant reflector as a mirror of an external cavity laser cavity, we demonstrate a new type of label-free optical biosensor that achieves a high quality factor through the process of stimulated emission, while at the same time providing high sensitivity and large dynamic range. The photonic crystal is fabricated inexpensively from plastic materials, and its...
